Hasta luego Rachel

Jordana's work. Coming soon in our blog :)

One of our wonderful screen printing on fabric teachers is leaving, Rachel. She will develop her career as an excellent textile designer in NY. I couldn't resist peeking in her class to take some pictures and check the outstanding work of her students.
We wish the best for you. We will miss you Rachel.
Hasta luego!!

La Bella Vita

“Life is beautiful” when you visit La Bella Vita in Mineral Points, Wisconsin. In this store you will find treasures if you work with different materials such as felt, yarn or if you love vintage aprons. The materials that Molly, the owner, sells are exquisite; most of them are by different designers and artists of the area.

I interviewed Molly, meanwhile she was doing felt from a French poodle as a commission. I will post some of this interview this week.

Another interesting fact is that Mineral Point has a very strong community, and Bella Vita holds a community of fiber artist that works with different materials in the south west of Wisconsin as well. I really wanted to write about it because I fell in love with Mineral Point and with “La Bella Vita”. I think that this store is absolutely beautiful. For more info visit www.labellavitamp.com

Open Studio at Lillstreet

video

Today was the open studio at Lillstreet. It was very nice having a lot people interested in our classes and the screen-printing over fabric and embroidery workshop. They were thought by Allison Rose and Camille Canales. We also have a video with pictures of this blog as well as one of my pieces, “Tracing What It is Remembered.” Both were on display in the hall during open studio. http://johart.blogspot.com/2009/10/tracing-what-it-is-remember.html

New Flags by Sara Allred

Hello Textile fans!

Look up and you'll find Sara Allred's new flags flapping in the wind. They are part of the Textile Department's rotating exhibition space on the beautiful roof-top deck. I love the 360-view of the city, including the neighborhoods and the Chicago skyline.

I also love how Sara's colorful birds fit well with the bright summer days we've been having lately.

For a chance to see the flags and visit the Textile Department, come to Lillstreet Art Center's Open House this Saturday, August 28th from 12-5pm. We will have a Screen-printing on Fabric Workshop from 12-1pm and an Embroidery demo from 1-2pm. Click here for more details.

Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest

We Chicagoans know our summers are beautiful (mostly) and brief. One must get in as many bike rides, ice creams, and street fairs as possible. Its looking to be a lovely weekend, so join the Lillstreet Textile Department as we pitch a tent at the Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest in Rogers Park. We'll be selling work by Textile Department teachers and monitors, passing out the fall class schedule, and generally enjoying ourselves. Its August 20-21st, 12-9, and the Morse stop on the red line will drop you off right down the block from us. More information can be found here: Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest
Hope to see you there!

To all embroidery fanatics:

Last week's Crash Course in Embroidery was such a hit that most people were interested in continuing instruction this summer. We had spoke about day-times working best for everyone, and Thursdays and Fridays working best for everyone as well. If you are still interested we can set up a 4 week class for $135, and make our own meeting times that meet once a week for 4 weeks. We need 4 people minimum to run a class. I look forward to hearing from everyone! As soon as we get 4 responses, I will add the class at the front desk.

Feel free to pass along the info to any friends...

Best,
Camille
