Garment Design

Check out this selection of work from the first ever garment and fashion design class at Lillstreet!

There's a lot of ambitious projects that are still in muslin stage, and I'm looking forward to sharing those when they are finished. Designing, patterning, fitting, and sewing a whole dress is a big undertaking- but its exciting, and worth it to have a garment that fits perfectly! The fashion industry (and the pattern-making industry) drape all their garments on dress forms that fit an average body-type, which results in clothing that fits everyone ok, but no-one perfectly. To get a garment that really fits, you have to start from scratch. The best part is that once you have that basic skirt and bodice pattern done, you can make anything!

If you stop by the sewing studio, take a look at our bookshelf for some new pattern drafting books and think about taking up pattern making.
